Cole Quest & The City Pickers Music Videos

I’ve always wanted to make an animated music video, but it seemed like a huge undertaking so I never actually did it. Then, about six months into quarantine, my friend Cole reached out to see if I’d be interested in making a music video for his band, Cole Quest & The City Pickers.

The City Pickers new album, Self [En]Titled, comes out on April 16 and Cole was looking to make a video for one of the singles — Way Over Yonder in the Minor Key. Six months later, I’ve made not one, not two, but three music videos for The City Pickers (with more on the way… stay tuned!). I’ve learned a ton, got way better at organizing my After Effects comps, and had a ton of fun.

You can check out the first three videos below — Way Over Yonder in the Minor Key, The Bitcoin Gambler, and Ostrich Therapy.

To create these videos I drew pictures on watercolor paper with Prismacolor markers (the best markers!), scanned them, cut them out in Photoshop, and animated them in After Effects. I also listened to these songs literally hundreds of times and can confirm that I did not get sick of them. This album is freakin’ fantastic. Highly recommend!
