Greeting cards are the bees knees…
Those of you that know me know that I’ve been on a mission to do more fun stuff. Recently, as part of that mission, I decided to start making greeting cards!
I’ve always loved greeting cards. When I was a kid, I could spend hours browsing in the Hallmark store (my favorite was the Shoebox section). I loved making handmade valentines for friends and could never give someone a gift without a thoughtful card tucked under the ribbon.
Over the past few years I’ve become a rabid collector of handmade and letterpress greetings. A few months ago, I signed up for a letterpress class and it was so freakin’ fun.
After the class, I decided to try printing my own save the dates for my wedding in May and I loved it. While I was there, I also printed this lightbulb card to get to know how the press works a little better.
For the past few months I’ve been just trying to come up with as many greeting card ideas as possible. I’m 70 days in to a 100 day project (you can check it out on Instagram).
And yesterday I decided to list my very first greeting card on Etsy—just in time for Valentine’s Day.
I’m 24 hours in, I’ve sold 19 cards, reconnected with 5 old friends, and learned a heck of a lot about the different denominations of stamps. I’ve also realized that I’ve still got a ton of learning to do but I’m excited to see where this takes me!
I’ll be printing card #2 tomorrow when I head to the letterpress studio to work on my wedding invitations. I’m really excited to share this next one! Spoiler alert: It’s a belated birthday card. Please favorite my shop to stay in the loop.
